A 22 Year old boy runs upto Rs 42 lakh phone bill for one Month

The Badlapur police have arrested Rishikesh Shukla, 22, who fraudulently procured a BSNL WLL (Wireless Local Loop) connection and made international calls worth Rs 42,52,480.
Shukla is a native of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and currently lives in Kalyan Kolsewadi. Sunil Manjhi, BSNL

Officer, Kalyan division, said, “While applying for a BSNL WLL connection, Shukla had submitted a copy of his PAN card, a copy of his house agreement and address proof, so we allotted him a connection on September 14.”  Shukla paid the bill for the period September 14 to October 14 and then applied for an ISD call facility, for which he deposited Rs 3,000 with BSNL. From November 3 to November 23, he made several international calls, for which BSNL sent him a bill of Rs 42,52,480.
Manjhi said, “These bills kept returning to us with the tag ‘person not staying at the above address’. Our staff then visited the address. But, upon checking records, we found that the person had given us forged documents. So, the department decided to take the help of the Badlapur police who traced Shukla to Kalyan Kolsewadi and arrested him.”

PI Vijay Bagal, Badlapur police station, said, “We were surprised when the BSNL officer came to lodge such a complaint, because we wondered how they gave a connection in the first place without verifying documents. They should have done some verification while allotting him the international call facility. Now, the police have written to BSNL for details of the calls made by the accused.”

Police said Shukla has been pursuing a diploma in mechanical engineering for the past six years and is currently unemployed.

 NOKIA ASHA 303 :
A QWERTY-equipped feature phone, the Nokia Asha 303 also comes with a capacitive touchscreen and a price tag that makes this device look very interesting indeed.
The Asha 303 is a bit of an oddity, as are several other recent low-cost Nokia devices. Although this isn't a smartphone, it really pushes the limits of what plain old "feature phones" can do. It packs a relatively small 2.6" 240 x 320 pixel touch sensitive display, it has a 1GHz processor inside, and a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back, an FM radio, a media player and a microSD slot plus Bluetooth. This is a 3.5G capable device with WiFi support as well, which is pretty impressive when you consider that it will cost just €115 before tax and subsidy.
This is a Series 40 device, which means that it is nowhere near as flexible as a smartphone when it comes to available software, but it can still download Java applications and perhaps most importantly of all, it comes with a pre-installed version of Angry Birds Lite.
Also included is a web browser, instant messaging client, a set of social networking applications and broad email support. Most markets will have a version of Nokia Maps too, although the Asha 303 does not support GPS.

Although this is an elegantly designed handset with a good feature set, if you can stretch your budget by about 50% you could get a low-end Android phone which would include GPS, have a bigger touchscreen and access to thousands of applications from the Android Market. On the other hand, the Asha 303 is likely to be a much faster device to use.
The Asha 303 measures 117 x 56 x 14mm and weighs just 97 grams. The relatively large 1300 mAh battery can power the 303 for up to 7 hours talktime and 35 days standby time on 3G.
Nokia say that the Asha 303 should be available during Q4 2011 in red, green, purple, aqua, silver white and graphite colours.

Types Of Bluetooth Hacks And Its Security Issues

Bluetooth came up as one of the major breakthroughs in close range wireless transfer of data and communication standard between mobile devices. Although the GSM standard itself is a wireless standard operating on licensed bands, yet transfer of large amount of data is not feasible especially if you want to share a file may be with your friend near by. Mobiles did have the Infrared technology which was used for such applications.

But to use it, infrared lenses of both the mobiles had to be within the line of sight. Infrared also became popular for playing two player games, but once again all such applications with Infrared don’t offer the feature of mobility which is the purpose of having a mobile in the first place.
The Bluetooth technology solved this issue and we can now do all this stuff we did with Infrared using unlicensed band of radio waves without having to be in line of sight. Therefore this major issue with Infared can now be addressed without compromising user mobility.
Bluetooth has become a very basic feature of mobiles and now every mobile be it from a branded vendor or to may be a Chinese clone of such mobiles; all have this feature embedded in them. Many Bluetooth application therefore have emerged that allow peering of users, however people least give importance to the security issues that arise when radio spectrum is used in such a way.
Although using unlicensed band has its benefits to the end user but being under no regulation it is more vulnerable to security issues. A typical user sharing a file with a friend would be least concerned about the security threats, using Bluetooth can cause. However if an individual’s mobile is compromised, the hacker can have easy access to personal data and can even manipulate it, which might concern him too.
Here lets take a look into the different categories of how hackers can infiltrate user’s mobile using Bluetooth, then we will discuss their mechanism briefly to make the end user aware of how vulnerable he can be.

Categories of bluetooth hacking

Bluetooth hacks are categorized broadly among:
  1. Bluejacking
  2. Bluesnarfing
  3. Bluebugging
  4. Bluetoothing
  • Firstly let’s take a look into Bluejacking. In Bluejacking a hacker might send unsolicited messages to the victim in the form of a business card or a mobile contact with a text that may look intimidating to read. In many cases hacker may also send sounds like a ring tone. The victim’s mobile could then be infiltrated and he might never know what has hit him. Bluejacking messages can also be viewed as spam messages with emails. There have also been reports about people getting hacked by Trojan Horse’s which could mean a serious compromise.
  • Bluesnarfing is considered a serious compromise in the category of Bluetooth hacking especially if the information vulnerable, is quite critical, as such attacks can allow the hacker access to victims; contact list, text messages, emails and even private photos and videos. The hacker can use brute force attack even if the device is invisible to guess the victims MAC address.
  • The third type of hacking mechanism is Bluebugging, in which the hacker uses sophisticated attacks to gain control of victims mobile. It works just like Trojan horses, where the hacker can manipulate the users phone the way he desires by executing commands on the victims phone. The hacker could forward mobile calls from the victim’s mobile to his own device and can even manipulate the mobile to follow a Bluetooth headset instructions like; receive call, send messages etc.
  • The final type is Bluetoothing which is just like social engineering; the hacker can use methods like harassment or luring the victim to fall his prey to his intentions.

The Tool Mostly Used For Bluetooth Hacking

Bluetooth technology didn’t just come out randomly for hobbyist to play with. It was a joint venture of top mobile companies just like the Wi-fi alliance. Therefore security fixes are often made in the form of firmware updates, by these companies when ever a threat emerges.
However like with most security vulnerabilities it is also important that the end user be educated as people don’t know what they are allowing or running in their cell phones. Hackers create tools from time to time to compromise such vulnerable mobiles.
One such tool is Super Bluetooth Hack which demonstrates characteristics of both Bluesnarfing and Bluebugging. This Bluetooth hack is one of the most widely used and is used by both professional hackers as well as people who just want to have fun by sneaking into other's mobiles, without even knowing about the security issues that may arise in doing so.

Security Issues With Super Bluetooth hack

Super Bluetooth hack is a typical small 270KB Java application that runs on mobile environment. It can cause great damage by gathering victim’s personal information as discussed in the hacking categories earlier. It is not an authentication-bypass tool that could use brute-force or back door attack, but it uses method of social engineering to hack into victim’s mobile.
Following are some of the key threats posed by this tool:
  • The hacker can bypass pairing by sending a download file which if the victim accepts; he might give him access to his personal data. In another method the hacker might establish one time pairing to intervene into the victim’s mobile by physically accessing his phone. Therefore the end user must be aware of such attacks as it is one of the most common and simplest method used my hackers.
  • The hacker could get access to the victim’s call register and he might place a call, put them on hold or hang-up. The victim might think that there is an issue in the phone however in reality his phone is compromised by an infiltrator.
  • This tool can make the victim’s mobile extremely vulnerable as the hacker issues desired commands on the victim’s phone and can even get data to his device, by bypassing any authentication mechanism. This shows how lethal such tools can be which are readily available on the web. Thus we must be responsible of protecting our mobiles too by taking necessary precautions.

Precautions

All these hacks have been mentioned just to inform the bluetooth users how vulnerable there devices can be. Currently no such major software has been developed to stop the above methods of hacking however newer devices are built taking into account these threats and experts believe that they will prove to be more secure. Regardless of all this, there are always some precautions that can be taken i.e.
Always keep Bluetooth off when you are not using it and make sure you are pairing with known devices when ever you need too. Make sure you rename the mobile to something more generic too you, else the default name which is the model of the mobile will be displayed. Another important thing which you must have with you not just regards to Bluetooth but mobile security in general is your mobile PIN, which you can use too reset you phone to default factory settings.
These are some basic but necessary precautionary measures which you can take to protect your phone privacy. Bluetooth like most technologies is meant to benefit us but we should know how to use it safely to protect us from their side effects too!

Phone Hacking Getting Easy – How to be Safe?

Technology is a boon as well as a bane. With increasing consumer awareness towards technology, it has become easier for the consumers to embrace the technical aspect of their devices and meddle with it. New age cell phones have developed quite a lot and they are extremely easy to handle. On the same front cell phone hacking has also become increasingly easy for various consumers. This can be a direct threat to everyone’s privacy.

Three Basic Phone Hacking Methods

The idea behind hacking a phone is obviously to get information regarding the conversations that the owner of the phone has over the phone. Now, hackers can hack in to the cell phone to get through to a live conversation. The might do it while you are still on the phone talking. Again, another popular cell phone hacking method is to get in to a person’s voicemail, which has stored voice messages and vital information.
1. Live Mobile Phone Hacking
Hacking in to a live mobile phone conversation is doubly hard for the hacker because they have to be extra careful to not let the people involved in the conversation detect the hacking. The hackers have to either get through to the service provider for your cell phones or they have to actually have an inside person in the cell phone service company to help them get in on live conversations. Seeing as this is a more complicated process, the chances of detection in this case is quite high.
2. Hacking Mobile Phones’ Voicemail
This method is relatively far too easy. Most voicemails have four digit passwords that are very simple to obtain. There are some really simple software programs available in the market with which any consumer can very easily crack the voicemail security password for any cell phone in the world.
3.Spyware

Then there is the commercial software, known as spyware, which can be used to breach the privacy of some unsuspecting user. You can be tricked into downloading the spyware directly, or you can be fraudulently lured to a website that automatically inserts the code into your device. Spyware that can take copies of everything stored in the smartphone, log its location or even switch on its components, is easily available. The owner of the infected handset doesn’t even know that his own device is being used to spy on him. There is no dearth of games that have spyware buried inside them, and are capable of gathering more information than they should.
It is indeed a fact that while mobile phones and tablets have brought lot of ease to our lives, they have also made it easy for our privacy and security to be compromised. We do need to keep lot of information at our fingertips, but we should also take some necessary precautions. The PINs and the passwords must be changed regularly. And as much as possible, you should avoid downloading all kinds of free games and others apps from little known vendors.
4.Bluetooth :

Bluetooth hacks are categorized broadly among
1.Bluejacking
2.Bluesnarfing
3.Bluebugging
4.Bluetoothing

Types Of Bluetooth Hacks And Its Security Issues

The Big Question – How to Avoid Mobile Phone Hacking

You have to understand that the hackers will target your security password first. You cannot expect to have simplistic or predictable password codes and still be 100% secure. Try choosing passwords that are quite unrelated to your person and random. Do not fall for simple scams where they ask you for personal information with claims of you winning some big amount. Remember, if it is too good to be true, then it probably is an illusion. Do not divulge personal information on websites or via text messages to unknown numbers.
However, your privacy is not the only thing that gets challenged by a phone hacking. Sometimes it can create confusion and miscommunication.

Apple Store App with Personal Pickup and EasyPay

Apple has released a new version (4.2) of its Apple Store app, and it’s now available for download from the App Store.
The update brings two important features: Personal Pickup and EasyPay. The former lets you buy something in the app and pick up your order at any Apple Retail Store. The feature is only available in the U.S. and Apple claims “most in-stock orders are available for pickup within an hour.”
EasyPay makes your in-store purchases simpler by letting you scan the barcode of a product and complete the transaction in the app. It sounds like the future of shopping: you enter a store, select a gadget, pay with your phone, and walk away. But the feature has several limitations, and some of its aspects are unclear.
First of all, due to the limitations of the older iPhone models’ cameras, the feature only works on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Secondly, it can only be done with “select accessories.”
Most importantly, we’d like to know whether the feature will require any sort of assistance — receiving a printed receipt, for example — from Apple personnel. If the answer is yes, it defeats the purpose, and if the answer is no, it might make protection from theft a bit more challenging for Apple, with people simply walking out the store with a bunch of gadgets, without talking to an Apple employee first. We’ve asked Apple about the specifics involving EasyPay and are waiting for their answer.
The app also lets you track current and previous orders, and brings support for Canada and China.
The app requires iOS 4.2 or higher. Unfortunately for iPad owners, Apple Store is still not optimized for that device, meaning it will work as an up-scaled version of the iPhone app.

Android Vs Symbian Operating System

This question is in many people’s mind that which one is the best : Android or Symbian ?

As we think according to its birth basis, android is the latest so we can say it will have all latest features so it is the best but at other end we also think that old is gold and become confused in between android and Symbian os.

Here is useful  comparison of both android and symbian operating systems :

1) OPERATING SOFTWARE or FIRMWARE

so if you got an symbian phone suppose an. s60v3 and now you want an s60v5 then all you can do is trash your old phone and buy a new s60v5 by spending cash.

but if you have an android phone with suppose an 1.6 android version running and you want to upgrade to 2.1 android version then all you have to do is do a software upgrade through your phone or by using a computer and as soon as the upgrade is finished you have your 1.6 replaced by 2.1 giving you new added features and some new user interface, no need of wasting your money on buying new cell phones

2). FLASHING Your phone with new FIRMWARE

If you are a SYMBIAN user and hate the looks of your phones menu style then you have 2 options to change those looks

a – install a new theme for your phone or

b – flash your. phone with new firmware or rom by using a computer

now everybody knows this is a risky procedure and if anything goes wrong your phone will be dead

but if you are an ANDROID user and want to do the same then you have 3 options

a) – either install new theme

b) – either install new menu launcher

c) – flash your phone with new custom firmware

you will need to download a new firmware or rom from internet. and flash it using your phone only by just using the RECOVERY MENU of your phone and if anything goes wrong and your phone is dead then you can actually get back your phone in working condition from the recovery menu itself

it’s as simple as clicking the button. and everything in your phone will be like before nothing ever happened and all this can be don't from your phone itself no need of looking at the computer.

3) – CHANGING PHONE FEATURES

if u use a. SYMBIAN phone and want to change the way how your menu looks. the way how your gallery looks and how your videos. and music library looks and how your notes and documents and messages, mms, and phone book looks the way your browser and file manager looks.

then you can download and install new applications available out there and use them for the purpose but that will take all your precious phone memory and also will not act. as your. default. application. if you don’t want this to happen then you. can find a custom firmware for your phone that satisfy all your needs and flash it but that’s risky as we saw before

but in an android. you can actually do little tweaks and treaks. by removing your default file browser and downloading. and installing new file browser. that’s it no risky stuff no memory eaten by an extra useless application that you don’t need. and the new downloaded application act as your default. application

4) PROCESSOR and its SPEED

Now processor is very important to run high end applications, in a Symbian phone you cannot see what speed your processor runs on

In an android there are some applications. that not only gives you look of your processor speed. but also can help you control it and help you save your battery by going to minimum speed or help you run high end applications on your. phone smoothly by going to maximum speed.

not only that you can overclock. Your processor

like my phone processor is 512mhz. and its max speed

but i overclocked it to 712mhz. now I have smoother phone

d)- money spent on phone

take a NOKIA 5800xm phone and now take a. NOKIA N8

check out the difference

u got bigger screen, bigger processor, good camera that’s it rest is same like same menu view, same file browser and messaging and call log browser

same application can be downloaded and just higher graphics in THE N8 and same. WiFi and 3g and gps

but i think i can actually do with NOKIA 5800 rather then buying expensive n8.

(5) MODIFICATIONS

Symbian phones does not allow users to do modifications with their phones
but why if you bought the phone its yours, its not nokia's phone anymore

android people say its your phone now so go ahead and do anything you want.

Square (Accept credit cards from your Mobile phone)

The co-founder of one of the most popular social networking sites, Twitter, is promoting his newest invention, Square. Jack Dorsey’s creation is a tiny device that attaches to your headphone jack on your iPod Touch or iPhone.
Are you a businessman that hardly collects payment from customers because they don’t have cash and wants to use credit cards instead? Well, Jack Dorsey’s new invention could be the answer to this problem. How does this gadget provide solutions to a person’s business needs?
Basically, Square is a gadget that can be attached to individual’s mobile phone. It is a plug-in attachment capable of detecting and reading credit cards so that a businessman or any individual could accept payment from anyone who owes money from them. Motorola Droid Razr (thinnest of all android mobiles)

After crashing and burning in a blaze of mediocrity, the once-legendary RAZR lineage has a new successor. The Droid RAZR is a 4G LTE, 1.2 GHz dual-core-CPU-powered, kevlar-constructed wafer of a phone.
The Droid RAZR is only 7.1mm thick (although it has significantly thicker bump at the bottom), making it the thinnest of its kind. It also has 1GB RAM, 16GB of storage, 12.5 hours of talk time on the Verizon network thanks to an 1800 mAh battery, 8 megapixel camera (with 1080p recording), a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display strengthened with Gorilla Glass, a steel core and Kevlar fiber, which makes it strong and light weight. But the real gem here is that all parts of the phone—even the electronics—have been coated in a water-resistant material, which will help guard against spills and the elements.

From what we can tell, the Droid RAZR feels like a faster, thinner, better version of the Droid Bionic. Here's what Brent had to say after playing with it:

The phone feels extremely solid but also incredibly light. I held it next to the the Droid Bionic and it just feels feather-weight, but at least as strong. The kevlar back is rubberized and had a good non-stick feel. The new Super AMOLED screen is a dramatic improvement over the Bionic. That pixely cross-hatch of Pentile has been banished. Instead it was bright and clear and colors looked very good.

I was hoping I'd see a boost in speed from the 1.2GHz dual-core processor (vs. the 1GHz found on the Bionic), but nothing was immediately noticeable. Actually, if felt a little slower, maybe. I'll reserve judgement on that front, but it's something I'll keep an eye one when we do our exhaustive testing.

Basically there is no reason, at all, to buy the Bionic over this. I mean, absolutely zero. Why would you want something heavier, slower, and worse looking? I'm sure they'll be dropping the Bionic's price tag with a quickness to give people some (any) reason, but as of now, I'm not seeing it.
Sadly though, there's no mention of Ice Cream Sandwich as the Android OS powering the Droid RAZR: it is instead running Gingerbread. It will run you $299 on-contract, which isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but isn't unheard of either. You can pre-order on October 27th and it will be available on November 6th

First off, they spent about two years developing the kevlar. They originally looked at carbon fiber (because who isn't these days?), but carbon is no good for wireless signal. Kevlar, on the other hand, is super strong, rigid, and won't bork your calls. In fact, kevlar's so solid that during early prototypes they couldn't even cut a piece down to size with a band-saw. That should make you feel pretty good about the phone's strength.
Gorilla Glass on the front helps, too.

This phone is made with a new process, where layers are laminated one-by-one on top of each other. This makes the devices exceptionally strong and rigid.
The upside of that rigidity: better sound quality through the external speakers, since vibration is cut down significantly. The room I was in had a lot of ambient noise, but the phone sounded pretty good. The downside: the battery is no longer removable.
LTE devices are pretty power-hungry, and while most people don't resort to battery-switching during the day, it's always nice to have the option.

Moto's engineers said the camera is essentially the same as the one on the Droid Bionic, but tweaked a little to give it better performance. We weren't too hot on the Bionic's camera, so we'll definitely be checking that when we get our review unit.

Lastly, the splash guard is created by spraying a nano-coating across all of the components, except the screen. It's on the ACTV, too, and I was told that it would be coming to virtually all Motorola phones in the future. Awesome. Now if we could just submerge them, too, I would be happy as a clam.

The super-thin, super-light, 4G-sporting Motorola Droid Razr officially goes on sale this morning at Verizon Wireless.

At $299 (with a two-year contract), the phone is also $100 more than the latest Apple iPhone 4S and $50 more than Verizon’s Droid Bionic. Verizon also lists the Motorola Razr’s retail price at $649, but is not offering the option of buying an unlocked verison of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Skin (A new concept from samsung)

  • A recent survey conducted by Nielsen reveals that a great percentage of mobile customers in the United States are owners of smartphones and also that smartphones are responsible for the majority of purchases of new cell phone.
  • Smartphone is a gadget that has classified the convenience of a tiny computer that can be easily taken anywhere. With smartphones increasing becoming a trend around the globe, iPhones along with Android phones are now components of many households.
  • The Galaxy Skin was designed and developed by Hye Yeon You and Prof. Haeseong J. Jee and it was first displayed at an event at Hongik University, on June 10.  According to Hye You, the design is still in the stage of conception and at the event, it was revealed to the Samsung team.
  • The rivalry between popular handset manufacturers such as Apple, Motorola, HTC and Samsung has resulted in superior battery life to boost the functions of the smartphone, 4G speeds for faster data transfer, incorporation of newer software, bigger displays, faster processors and a variety of designs, including the Samsung Galaxy Skin.

  • A few months after, Samsung confirmed the manufacture of the AMOLED displays which are flexible and set to be debuted by June 2012.  At the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in Las Vegas, Samsung showed off its AMOLED displays. The displays are bendable, can be rolled all the way up and they can even withstand direct hits from a hammer.
  • The concept for this new mobile phone leaps ahead of the smartphone era to usher in the era of the “Genius Phone.”
  • One of the best features of the flexible displays is that they make use of AMOLED technology, which means that they are equipped with low energy consumption and bright screens.  Furthermore, Samsung has joined forces with Ube Kosan, a company in Japan, which will most likely play a vital role in manufacture of the AMOLED flexible displays.
  • The series of Samsung Galaxy Skin phones will possibly incorporate sensor sensitivity which is comparable to that of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC).  This is used for remotely sensing the different changes in temperature and weather. It includes color changes which enables solar battery to charge, a concept which is comparable to photosynthesis.
